What’s going on at Boeing?

Crisis management expert and former Air India adviser, Paul Charles, gives an overview on all the problem faced by Boeing after the flight 171 crash. The doomed aircraft, a 787 Dreamliner, was the latest from the manufacturer to be involved in a fatal air disaster. This deadly incident is likely to bring fresh scrutiny to the under-fire company, which has seen its stocks plummet in recent months amid a slew of controversies and fatal accidents. But despite growing concerns over the safety of Boeing aircraft, it has emerged the model of plane that crashed in the Indian city of Ahmedabad had an immaculate safety record before today. Air India flight 171 careened back to earth in the densely populated Meghani area of the city, hitting doctors’ accommodation and a student canteen minutes after leaving the runway at about 1pm local time. Pictures have emerged showing chunks of the plane's fuselage and tail protruding from a demolished building. A pilot told LBC he believed it was a “tragic accident” and believed it was likely down to pilot error. An investigation is under way to establish the cause of the crash. He said the 787 was a “phenomenal aeroplane” that was an “absolute dream to fly.” “What we have to realise is errors, mistakes… can happen at any time and people are only human.” “There is no single manufacturing process in the entire world which is flawless. Boeing will strive to do as much as they possibly can to iron out any errors.” Experts have said that looking at footage of the plane’s final moments it appeared it may have been on the wrong flap setting which could have led to the crash. The incident marks just the latest disaster for scandal-hit Boeing. In 2018 and 2019, 346 people were killed when two of the company’s Max 8 jets crashed. Whistleblower John Barnett, who accused the company of mismanagement, was also found dead weeks after breaking his silence in 2024. In January 2024, a brand-new 737 Max 9 jet was forced into an emergency landing following a terrifying cabin panel blowout. No-one was injured during the incident. 53 Britons were aboard the flight at the time of the crash, Air India confirmed today. In a statement on Thursday morning, Gatwick Airport confirmed: "We can confirm that flight AI171 that crashed on departure from Ahmedabad Airport today was due to land at London Gatwick at 18:25." Footage emerging on social media shows dark plumes of smoke rising into the air in a built-up area close to the airport. Further videos appearing to show the aircraft flying low over the city rooftops before disappearing has also emerged, with a fireball emerging in the distance after the jet goes out of sight. According to flight tracking app Flightradar24, signal from the aircraft was lost at 10:08 local time. The plane was reportedly flying at a height of 625 feet, less than a minute after take off, at the time signal was lost. In a statement, Air India said: "Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick was involved in an accident on 12 June 2025. "At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest opportunity." “A very high-risk move:” Israel strikes Iran, killing the head of their army

“A very high-risk move:” Israel strikes Iran, killing the head of their army

Middle East expert Chris Doyle joins Nick Ferrari to give his reaction to Israel's overnight strike on Tehran. Israel launched targeted strikes on Iran's nuclear and military facilities, killing atomic scientists and the head of the army. Now Iran is retaliating with over 100 drones. An Israeli official said the strikes, named Operation Rising Lion, targeted "Iran's nuclear programme and other military targets". Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Brig Gen Effie Defrin said Iran launched "approximately 100" drones towards Israel, which he says they are working to intercept. Explosions were heard northeast of Iran's capital Tehran early on Friday, according to Iran's state-run Nour News. Hossein Salami, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, and Fereydoon Abbasi, the former head of the Atomic Energy Organization, have both been killed in the strikes. Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of Iran's armed forces, has also been killed, Iran's state television reported. There was also a blast heard at Natanz nuclear facility, south of Tehran, Reuters reported. At least six military bases around Tehran as well as homes of military commanders and multiple residential buildings have also been hit, citing senior Iranian officials, The New York Times reports. A spokesperson for Iran's armed forces has said that the US and Israel will pay a "heavy price" for the strikes. "The armed forces will certainly respond to this Zionist attack," said Iranian spokesperson, Abolfazl Shekarchi. Israel's defence minister has announced a "special state of emergency" in the country and said schools would stay closed on Friday. The state's military said a "pre-emptive, precise, combined offensive based on high-quality intelligence" had been launched. Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said the with this attack Israel "has prepared a bitter fate for itself, which it will surely receive". Prime Minister Keir Starmer has urged Iran and Israel to "step back and reduce tensions urgently". "Escalation serves no-one in the region," he said. "Stability in the Middle East must be the priority and we are engaging partners to de-escalate. Now is the time for restraint, calm and a return to diplomacy." The head of the United Nations has called for "maximum restraint" and condemned Israel's strikes. "The Secretary-General asks both sides to show maximum restraint, avoiding at all costs a descent into deeper conflict, a situation that the region can hardly afford," a UN spokesperson, speaking on behalf of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said. Iran has called on the international community to condemn the Israeli attacks which "exposes global security to unprecedented threat". The theories air crash investigators are exploring for Air India flight 171

Aviation expert and former fighter pilot Sean Bell goes through all the theories that will be considered by air crash investigators looking into Air India flight 171. Air India flight 171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, careened back to earth in the densely populated Meghani area of the city, hitting doctors’ accommodation and a student canteen minutes after leaving the runway at about 1pm local time. Pictures have emerged showing chunks of the plane's fuselage and tail protruding from a demolished building. Police have confirmed more than 290 people, both in the plane and on the ground, were killed in the crash. Video footage shared online showed a man walking around in the wreckage of the crash, although this has not been confirmed to be Mr Ramesh. Speaking outside the family home in Leicester, his brother, Nayan Kumar Ramesh, 27, said: “We were just shocked as soon as we heard it. “I last spoke to him yesterday morning. We’re devastated, just devastated." "He said: 'I have no idea how I exited the plane'.” Listen to the full show on the all-new LBC App: https://app.af.lbc.co.uk/btnc/thenewlbcapp #nickferrarri #airindia #LBC LBC is the home of live debate around news and current affairs in the UK.
