James O’Brien asks: ‘Why aren’t Brits joining the police?’ | LBC

Police leaders have warned that they will struggle to fulfil the government's recruitment promises following the recent Spending Review, and "the public will pay the price". 13,000 additional officers were promised by Labour. Some of this is down to the £1.2 billion shortfall in police spending which is expected to grow, some of this is down to recruitment. James O'Brien asks why the police are struggling to attract applicants. He suggests it's not an attractive prospect anymore due to unrest in the streets, and that 'they get it in the neck for everything they do', and too many people are waiting to 'jump on any indiscretion'. He thinks that there is "an air of peril" surrounding our police service at the moment.
