Around 700 Marines have been deployed to LA amid protests over ICE migrant raids as Donald Trump says forces will “hit back”.
Largely peaceful protests turned violent overnight as people took to the streets to protest the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal migrants across the US.
US president Donald Trump called the protests in LA “Gavin Newscum inspired Riots”.
Writing on his platform Truth Social, Trump said: “The insurrectionists have a tendency to spit in the face of the National Guardsmen/women, and others.
“These patriots are told to accept this, it’s administration.
“IF THEY SPIT, WE WILL HIT, and I promise you they will be hit harder than they have ever been hit before.
“Such disrespect will not be tolerated!”
Trump said he would arrest California Governor Gavin Newsom over the protests in Los Angeles.
As the protests develop, Andrew Marr is joined by Laura Trevelyan journalist in New York and former BBC World News America presenter and former ICE Director John Sandweg.
